Description: | The proposed visitors route for the archaeological site of Ur is designed as a simple infrastructure with the minimal impact on the existing archeological remains. The project is a first step towards the conservation and renewal of the archeological site as a whole, improving tourist services and facilitating maintenance, research and excavation activities. The project involves moving all visitor services (parking area, visitor center, shuttle bus stop) to near the entrance from the main road, in order to safeguard the archaeological remains. From here the area is accessed via electric shuttle buses on a route circling the area. The visit to the Temenos itself is provided via a system of walkways and rest areas equipped with information panels and shaded areas. The Visitor Center, built with local techniques and materials, is designed as a one-storey building camouflaged in the surrounding landscape. |
